The IB Diploma Programme Curriculum; students study six subjects in the IB Diploma Programme. Three at a higher level and three at standard level. Students must choose one subject from each of the six groups of subjects. This ensures breadth of education in languages, social sciences, natural sciences and mathematics.
Additionally to the six compulsory subjects IB Diploma Programme requires the study of three core subjects that broaden education and experiences whilst encouraging students to apply their knowledge and acquired skills .
An essay is a mandatory component for DP students. An essay of 4,000 words provides students with the opportunity to explore and delve deeper into the secrets of one of the six subjects that interests them and which they choose. This component develops students’ skills to independently seek and independently create a piece of work, which will be required later at the universities.
This is an interdisciplinary course which is essential to the educational philosophy of the Diploma Programme. It is designed to support the student to critically reflect their knowledge of the taught subjects . Its aim is to encourage students to research different paths to knowledge (perception, emotion, language, thinking, intuition and memory) and different kinds of knowledge (scientific, artistic, mathematical, historical, humanitarian, etc.).
This course is also a fundamental part of the Diploma Programme. The aim of the course is for the students to be actively involved in various activities outside the classroom. It is supported by their ability to perceive the world outside the classroom. It's a nice balance of academic study.
