Ski Trip 2009 | 2009-12-07

The grade 10A and 10B ski trip took place in ski centre Nassfeld in Austrian Alps. Maybe you found you couldn’t see the students of grade 10 and some of the staff at school in term of 8th to 14th February. Instead of staying in dirty Ostrava we had a beautiful week full of skiing and snowboarding and an awesome environment around us.

Our trip started on Sunday morning, the meeting time was 7:15 a.m. (for most of us an extremely early time to get up on Sunday) in front of our (lovely) school. We said goodbye to our caring parents and the never-ending journey started. After 10 hours and many stops we finally arrived. We were living in a comfortable family pension situated about 7 minutes from the ski centre where we were skiing and *snowboarding. The staff of the pension was really nice, they could speak English! And surprisingly the food was digestible.

Our first morning started comfortably with breakfast in the smorgasboard style. We got on the bus; everyone was full of energy, fit and looking forward to new skiing adventures. We took a chair lift and landed 1919 metres above the sea where the sun was shining, the sky was blue and you could see everything white because of the fresh snow. We divided into a few groups and we enjoyed the skiing and snowboarding and during our lunch break sunbathing in this beautiful weather. We arrived to our pension exhausted but (mostly) excited about the first day of skiing and snowboarding. Our dinner was huge and after a bit of rest we had evening program where we played a few games. At 10 o’clock we enjoyed lights-out and happily went to bed.

The next few days had the same schedule except the weather wasn’t so beautiful (sometimes strong wind, fog and awful visibility), but we, brave students and teacher survived all of these extreme situations. In evenings we made parodies of our teachers and vice versa.

Finally, after a few dangerous falls everyone survived; just some of us had small injuries. We improved our skiing and snowboard skills, but the biggest progress made Milan Vu, who was standing on skis for the first time on Monday and on Friday he could go down any red ski slope he wanted - Congratulations, Milan! We got to know each other better, not only classmates but our teachers also. On Friday we sadly said goodbye to the ski slopes and left the pension at 6:30 p.m. and the long journey back home started. Our expected return was supposed to be at 6 a.m.; instead of that around 3 a.m. we were told to call our parents to wait for us in front of the school at 4 a.m. Finally everyone was glad to get home and we had another week of Spring holidays to have rest :-).

* Information about snowboarding was added on special wish of Iris Kleinová.
