SENIOR YEAR STUDENTS’ CAREERS RETREAT | 2009-12-07
Probably most of you who have done the Maturita in the Czech Republic have also experienced what is in Czech called the “stužkovací večírek”. Since we - Grade 13 students - will be sitting for this exam next May, we also started organizing everything that is traditionally connected with this event. In the second half of October basically the whole class drove up to the Prašivá Mountain, where we had our Initiation Ceremony Party – that´s what “stužkovací večírek” is called at our school. The first task we faced was to get there, which was not all that easy for everyone. It was kind of fun to find out that some of us drove dangerously close to the border with Slovakia. But well, we all got there eventually and so our costume party – the program for Thursday night – could start. As the retreat was aimed at preparation for our university and college studies, the next morning we participated in workshops, where we discussed our study possibilities after graduation. One of the workshops was focused on post-secondary education in the Czech Republic (thank you Mrs. Fabíková), another on studying in Europe (Ms. Kotasová and Ms. Karsinou) and the third one was aimed at students interested in American and Canadian universities (Gitana). In the afternoon we descended to Komorní Lhotka, where we went to the Finnish sauna.
After we returned to the cottage, we dressed up for the formal dinner. The initiation ceremony was part of this dinner. With a help from other teachers (Mr. Hartmann, Gitana and Mrs. Fabíková), Mr. Corkill, our class teacher, carried out the ceremony in which we received our ribbons and officially became senior students. Then our Ribbon Party could finally start. To remember our last year at the ISO, we also had Maturita hoodies made. So if you’re still wondering who we are, come to the school and look around. I´m pretty sure you´ll find someone wearing a grey ISO hoody – and that´s us!
