Trip to Vienna | 2009-12-07
On the second last Sunday of April, students of Prima and Sekunda embarked on an epic adventure to Vienna! Leaving at 6:00 a.m. on Sunday morning was tough for the teachers but the students were more than ready for action. Once in Vienna, we checked-in to our fabulous hotel and set off to explore the city centre. The first stop, Haus der Musik, was a great mix of music history, interactive displays and bizarre musical instruments. Then we began our walking tour of Vienna’s city centre. We visited the Opera House, Hofburg Palace, the Town Hall, St. Stephen’s Cathedral, Volksgarten and many other monuments. The teachers were hoping that the students would be tired by then, but after a quick bite to eat, all students were ready for what was considered the highlight of the trip – Vienna’s world-famous PRATER! The Prater proved to be a big hit with the students. It was unfortunate that our time there was limited but all students had a fantastic time amongst the various attractions and rides (see photos).
Day 2 began at Schönbrunn Palace when we visited a World Heritage Site – Vienna Zoo. This zoo is the oldest in the world and we were all amazed by the vast range of animals – including African Elephants, Emperor Penguins and a baby Panda! After a relaxing lunch in the grounds of the Zoo, we set off to see the Egyptian exhibit at the Museum of Ethnology. This was a great opportunity for the students to see some valuable artefacts all the way from Egypt’s National Museum. Back at the hotel, we then sat down to a nice meal together, before heading home.
The trip was a great success and it is hoped that it will become an annual event for all Prima and Sekunda students. Thank you to the students for their excellent cooperation and enthusiasm and thank you to everyone who put in their time and effort to make the trip so much fun.
