RESEARCH, ESSAY WRITING & STUDY SKILLS

OWLs
It is common at many American universities to offer a special service to their undergraduates called a Writing Lab. Their purpose is to help students with their general writing skills, particularly essay writing skills and research. These “laboratories” often have online services called OWLs (Online Writing Labs).

The OWL at Purdue University is a good example. It has excellent resources for grammar, punctuation, and ESL learners. There are resources for writing in literature, engineering, medicine, creative writing, and journalism. There are also important resources for research and citation using the MLA referencing system (to avoid plagiarism)
